Spain Takes Historic Step to Tighten Anti-Smoking Laws: Terraces, Beaches, and Public Spaces to Become Smoke-Free

SPAIN – The Council of Ministers has approved a sweeping and ambitious reform of Spain’s anti-smoking legislation, set to fundamentally transform outdoor public areas across the nation, including the Canary Islands. The proposed bill, which is now heading to Parliament for debate, will dramatically expand the list of outdoor zones where smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited.

Additionally, a mandatory 15-meter smoke-free perimeter will be enforced around schools, hospitals, healthcare clinics, museums, libraries, and playgrounds. Fines for Minors and Equal Treatment for Vaping

For the first time, Spanish law will directly penalize underage smoking and vaping. While previous regulations fined the sale of tobacco to minors, the new framework targets consumption directly.
