Santa Cruz and Las Palmas Record One of the Hottest Starts to September in Decades

CANARY ISLANDS – The Canary Islands have experienced one of their hottest September days in modern history, with temperatures in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria climbing more than two degrees above the seasonal average.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife reached a peak of 30.6°C . Historical climate records show that only 9% of September days on record since the mid-20th century have been warmer, placing these latest figures at the extreme end of historical data.

85% Humidity and Extended Summers

High humidity levels reaching up to 85% in coastal areas have made conditions feel significantly warmer. While September traditionally marks the transition towards milder autumn weather, meteorologists note that the archipelago's summer season now lasts roughly five weeks longer on average than it did in the 1980s.
