Major Crackdown in Southern Tenerife: Police Seize Nearly 1,500 Fake Designer Bags Targeted at Tourist Hotspots

TENERIFE – Local Police in Arona have dealt a significant blow to illegal street selling and counterfeit trade across southern Tenerife. In a targeted enforcement action, officers seized almost 1,500 fake designer handbags intended for unlawful distribution along the busy promenades of Las Américas and Los Cristianos.

The operation forms part of an escalated campaign against illegal street trading. Rather than solely focusing on street-level sellers, authorities targeted the supply network to disrupt the storage and wholesale distribution of fake goods.

Raid on Wholesale Storage Premises in El Fraile

Following investigative work, officers searched a property in the nearby town of El Fraile, confiscating nearly 1,500 counterfeit bags alongside 1,400 designer logo badges ready to be attached to unbranded goods.

A 50-year-old Senegalese national identified at the premises was unable to produce legal documentation or proof of origin for the stock. All items were impounded as evidence of trademark infringement and counterfeiting offenses.

Strategic Enforcement Targeting Warehouse Suppliers

Police representatives highlighted that maintaining a visible patrol presence on public streets is no longer sufficient to control the issue. Instead, law enforcement is focusing resources on discovering hidden warehouses, commercial units, and supply chains feeding street sellers.

While tackling counterfeit trade poses ongoing operational challenges, authorities emphasize that disrupting wholesale suppliers remains essential to protecting legitimate local businesses and public spaces.

Ensuring safe and regulated commercial areas enhances the resort environment for holidaymakers staying in holiday apartments in los cristianos and surrounding southern Tenerife destinations.
