€13.8 Million Resurfacing Plan for Tenerife’s TF-1 Motorway: Cabildo Awards Contract to Upgrade 18.6 Kilometres

TENERIFE – The Cabildo de Tenerife has officially awarded the contracts for the major resurfacing and rehabilitation works on the southern TF-1 motorway between kilometre marks 1+400 and 20+000. This essential infrastructure scheme will upgrade approximately 18.6 kilometres of one of the busiest transport corridors in the Canary Islands.

Representing a total investment of €13,855,850.25 split across two distinct contracts, each phase has been assigned a six-month execution window. Island officials have classified the initiative as a "strategic priority" to enhance road safety, optimize transit times, and boost sustainability on a route utilized by more than 70,000 vehicles every day.

Contract Allocation and Geographic Work Sections

The comprehensive pavement overhaul between Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Güímar has been divided into two separate operational lots to ensure efficient execution and minimize disruption to daily commuters:

• Lot 1 (Santa Cruz de Tenerife - El Rosario): Awarded to Transformaciones y Servicios, S.L. for €7,507,192.86.
• Lot 2 (El Rosario - Candelaria - Arafo): Awarded to Señalizaciones Villar, S.A. for €6,348,657.39.

Tenerife Cabildo President Rosa Dávila emphasized that this initiative represents a firm step towards modernizing the island's essential road network, stating: «The TF-1 handles heavy daily traffic volumes, and this intervention will deliver a safer, more durable road surface equipped for current and future demands.»

Sustainable Eco-Asphalt and Advanced Safety Upgrades

Island Roads Councillor Dámaso Arteaga highlighted that the project goes beyond simple resurfacing by integrating advanced eco-friendly solutions. The new pavement will feature high-performance asphalt mixes containing 50% recycled materials to reduce environmental impact.

Complementary safety enhancements include rumble strips along the road edges, fully renewed horizontal and vertical signage, updated central reservation crash barriers, and optimized junction slip roads.
