September Begins with Showers and Cloudier Skies Across the Canary Islands

CANARY ISLANDS – The start of September will bring a gradual change in weather conditions across the Canary Islands. While summer is far from over and warm temperatures will persist, weather forecasts indicate increasing cloud cover and light rain during the first few days of the month, particularly in Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

Additionally, trade winds are expected to weaken progressively during the first week, ushering in the calmer, gentler sea conditions traditionally associated with early autumn in the archipelago.

Monday & Tuesday: Early Weather Transition

According to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), Monday starts with morning clouds in northern areas that will clear by midday. Temperatures will remain warm, reaching up to 30°C in parts of Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria's mid-altitudes, and southern Tenerife.

Tuesday, September 1st, will start mostly clear, but clouds are expected to build by the afternoon. The European ECMWF forecasting model suggests potential light showers over mountainous areas in central islands later in the day.

Wednesday to Friday: Higher Chance of Showers

More unsettled weather is likely by Wednesday. Forecasts show rain spreading across parts of Tenerife from mid-morning, particularly affecting southern-facing slopes and central high areas. Light rain is also possible in central Gran Canaria.

Clouds and intermittent showers could continue into Thursday and Friday, with Tenerife seeing the highest likelihood of precipitation. As winds drop towards the end of the week, weather conditions will remain comfortably warm.
