Brief Heat Relief in the Canary Islands: Rain and Dropping Temperatures Ahead of Weekend Sunshine
CANARY ISLANDS – The Canary Islands are set for a brief weather transition starting Thursday. Following intense summer heatwaves, the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) forecasts cloudier skies, light rain, and cooler temperatures across parts of the archipelago.
Thursday: Light Showers in Tenerife and Gran Canaria
Increased cloud cover on Thursday will bring light rain to several areas. In Gran Canaria, showers are expected around Mogán and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
In Tenerife, southern areas including Arona (Los Cristianos and Las Américas) will experience cloudy intervals and light rain, with similar conditions in La Orotava. Santa Cruz de Tenerife is expected to remain dry despite cloudy skies. The eastern islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will largely escape the wet conditions.
Despite the clouds, Thursday maximums will still linger around 30°C in Gran Canaria and 31°C in Tenerife.
Friday Brings Cooler Conditions
Friday marks the primary drop in temperature. While rainfall clears, daytime maximums will drop to around 28°C, with overnight lows hovering between 21°C and 23°C, offering a refreshing respite.
Summer Heat Returns by Sunday
The cooler spell will be short-lived. By Sunday, widespread sunshine returns alongside a sharp rise in temperatures, pushing maximums back up to 33°C in Gran Canaria and 31°C in Tenerife.
This minor weather change will quickly pass, ensuring visitors staying in holiday apartments in los cristianos can look forward to bright, sunny days for the remainder of the week.
